The Edinburgh Festival “The Fringe” started in 1947 when independent theatre groups performed on the fringe of the official Edinburgh International Festival. It has become the world’s largest performing arts festival. For three weeks in August, thousands of performers present theatre, comedy, music, and dance in hundreds of venues across the city. The festival allows emerging new artists and veteran performers alike to share their talent in open access venues; the innovative and energetic collaborations fosters new ideas and expressions art. Some famous names made famous from performing at the Fringe include Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, and Rowan Atkinson.
